平成18年（2006）から太宰府天満宮が取り組んでいる太宰府天満宮アートプログラムの第10回目として、平成29年（2017）11月にフランス人アーティスト ピエール・ユイグ（1962年生）が当宮の境内地に新作の庭「ソトタマシイ」を発表しました。

「神社の庭」としての境内を実際に歩き、宝物殿に展示されている境内図等の資料を眺め、千百余年にわたるその変遷に想像をめぐらせて構想された本作は、ドクメンタ13（2012年）の「Untilled 未耕作地」プロジェクトでも作家が取り組んだ、自然と人為の関係性への考察を背景としています。

ユイグによるこの「庭」は、今後、毎年3月から10月までの第1日曜、第1水曜の11時～15時に公開します。ただし、作品の性質上、雨天等都合により、公開を中止する場合があるため、訪問を予定される際は、本ウェブサイトもしくは、境内美術館ツイッタ―＠keidaiart、ピエール・ユイグ「ソトタマシイ」Facebookページにて公開情報をご確認されるか、太宰府天満宮文化研究所まで、電話もしくは、Eメールにてお問い合わせください。

As a memorable tenth exhibition of Dazaifu Tenmangu Art Program, which started in 2006, French artist Pierre Huyghe (born in 1962) created an entirely new garden ‘EXOMIND’ in a site of the shrine in November 2017.

Walking inside the precincts, the “garden of the shrine”, and looking through plans of the precincts and other materials exhibited in the shrine museum, Huyghe imagined how the garden had changed over a thousand years. This was the conception of this work, which reflects his insights into the relationships between nature and man-made, a subject which he had previously explored in his project "Untilled" in dOCUMENTA (13) (2012).

This ‘garden’ by Huyghe is planned be open on the first Sunday and the first Wednesday of every month between March and October. However, due to the nature of the work, we might well close the garden for weather condition such as rain, typhoon, etc. We strongly suggest you to check this website, our twitter @keidaiart or our Facebook page “Pierre Huyghe ‘Exomind’” for updates on its opening.
